Ashwathama had the same valiance and gallantry as lord Shiva because he is said to be a part that incarnate the Mahadeva. He played a vital role in Kurukshetra and as he was born with a gem in his forehead which gave him immense power it was virtually impossible for anyone one to destroy or defeat him.
